Idling in Hawaii Every year Hawaii is a temporary home to many millions of tourists who enjoy the islands' weather and environmental beauty. Hawaii is the only state in the United States that is completely surrounded by water and is separated from the mainland, yet is not a territory. The isolation of the Hawaiian Islands in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, and the wide range of environments to be found on high islands located in and near the tropic, has resulted in a vast array of endemic flora and fauna.

There are limited resources on the island and idling is not as serious an issue as it is in some other states, but it is still important that strides are made in its reduction.

The state of Hawaii has a small number of vehicles in operation throughout the state due to transportation by sea and air. Below is a summary of the data regarding idling length and costs.
