HB 2186 sponsored by St. Rep. Dave Hunt (D) passed the Senate 16-14 on June 24. The current bill would authorize the Environmental Quality Commission to adopt rules to help the state reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The rules include, but not limited to the following:
1. Rules establishing low carbon fuel standards; requirements to maintain or retrofit medium-duty and heavy-duty trucks in order to reduce aerodynamic drag and otherwise reduce greenhouse gas emissions from those trucks;
2. Restrictions and prohibitions on the sale and distribution of aftermarket motor vehicle parts;

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has fined Waste Management of Massachusetts for the third time this year for exceeding the state’s five minute idling limit. Waste Management will pay $27,200 for excessive idling at its Stoughton, Taunton and West Boylston, MA depots.
EPA has collected $329,500 in penalties this year from Capitol Waste Services, Allied Waste Services, and Waste Management for idling violations following inspections in 2007 and 2008 of numerous locations where trucks park.

STOUGHTON, Mass. -- The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proven it's serious about enforcing anti-idling laws, most recently handing out a US$27,200 idling fine to Waste Management.
The company was accused of violating the state of Massachusetts' five-minute idling limit at its depots. Waste Management is the third waste hauler to be dinged by the EPA, which has now collected US$329,500 in fines from the three companies.

The province is helping Ontario businesses do their part to fight climate
change with an enhanced program to green commercial fleets.
Under the four-year, $15-million Green Commercial Vehicle Program,
companies can apply for grants to:
- Purchase hybrid and alternative-fuel vehicles
- Retrofit heavy-duty vehicles with anti-idling technologies.
The fuel savings data collected by the program will help encourage more
businesses to go green.
