GOVERNOR SPITZER SIGNS BILL TO REDUCE SCHOOL BUS IDLING

Governor Eliot Spitzer today announced that he has signed legislation that will reduce air pollution from idling school buses. The bill requires the Commissioner of Education to issue regulations requiring certain school districts, particularly those with a significant number of children with asthma, to minimize the idling of school buses while parked on school grounds or in front of schools.

FENTON (WJRT) (WJRT) -- (10/18/07)- School districts in the state are doing all they can to reduce the amount of fuel their buses use. Some are turning to a device from a Mid-Michigan-based company that's designed to save them money in the long run.

04.05.07: Argonne's Idling Research Cited in Light-Duty Vehicle Idling Story

Argonne National Laboratory's paper, "Estimation of Fuel Use by Idling Commercial Trucks" is featured in a story on the U.S. Department of Energy's Clean Cities web site discussing both the impacts of idling light-duty vehicles (LDVs) and alternatives to such idling. Although much attention in recent years has focused on the impacts of heavy-duty vehicle idling, light-duty commercial vehicles such as delivery vans and pickup trucks often idle for a considerable part of the workday.
